Where to get a drink

If you think about coming to Germany you probably think of beer. If you think about coming to the WMC you probably think of beer. If you think about coming to the 33rd WMC in Freiburg/Opfingen you should also think of wine! It grows excellently in our warm region of Südbaden and so it’s no wonder the Romans settled here. On this site we gathered some tips for having a good time and a drink in the city.

Btw: If you still have your own bottles and only need a place to enjoy them, the small river Dreisam, crossing the city in EW direction, and the small artificial lake in the Seepark in the W of the city are beautiful spots!

Bermudadreieck

If you fancy a drink, your go-to area is the ‘Bermudadreieck’ in the old town. Numerous bars welcome you with local beer (Pils!), wine (white!) and more. Schlappen and Schwarzer Kater are student friendly allrounders. At Blauer Fuchs you can get a burger on the side. If you like it more simple and to the point check out Auditorium, just next to our university. You have several options for a decent German Döner afterwards, Euphrat being one possibilty.

The old city Center

Outside of the holy triangle, but very closely located in the Old Town, Schachtel is a great, but also small student bar. For a locally brewed beer with local food, check out Feierling where you can sit in a pretty Beergarden as well!

Stuehlinger

If you have the time, leave the Old Town and stroll around the city some more. West of the Central Station you will find the quarter of ‘Stühlinger’ with lots of student bars. Alt-Freiburg, Brennessel, brasil, Funkeneck…you name it: The options are (almost) endless and in most cases a bit cheaper and less touristy. The cheapest and best version to feel like a local is to sit on the Blaue Brücke (Blue Bridge) next to the Central Station and enjoy the view!
