2025 Edition : The 32nd Winckelmann Cup
The 32nd edition of the Winckelmann Cup will take place from July 4 to July 6, 2025, in the Lyon region, in the town of Mornant. It will be hosted by the local football club, FCSO69, a partner of the event.
The competition format has remained unchanged since its inception : registered teams compete in 2 x 10 minute matches on a 7-a-side field, with the mandatory presence of at least one female player on the field throughout the match. Teams from all over Europe camp on-site, fostering a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
This year, the tournament will welcome 52 teams, divided into 8 groups. It will kick off on Saturday, July 5, at 8:00 AM (8h00) and conclude with the final on Sunday, July 6, between 2:00 PM (14h00) and 3:30 PM (15h00). The first day will be dedicated to group-stage matches, while the following day will host the qualification matches for the final, as well as ranking matches for the lower-placed teams to ensure a fair tournament ranking.
Beyond the competition format, organizers are free to introduce their own version of the event in terms of hospitality and entertainment. Tradition also dictates that each new organizer adds a trophy to the list of awards distributed at the event, including Best Player, Best Female Player, Best Goalkeeper, Best Team at the Bar, and more.
About Us: Le Coq
The association “Le Poulailler“ was specifically created to support the organization of the 32nd edition of the Winckelmann Cup. It is made up of colleagues and friends who are archaeologists and who, since 2018, have participated in the competition as part of a team simply named “Le Coq Archéologique FC“.
Drawn to the values of the competition—centered around sharing, fun, sports, and togetherness—the Coq Archéologique FC team first took part in the Winckelmann Cup in Germany in 2018, followed by Belgium (2019), Germany (2023), and England (2024).
These various participations sparked, among some members, the desire to host this wonderful competition in Lyon. Thus, during the last edition in Oxford, England, and in keeping with Winckelmann Cup tradition, the organizers of the next tournament were elected by applause. On this occasion, our team had the honor of being chosen to organize the 2025 edition, the 32nd Winckelmann Cup.
To ensure a high-quality event, the Coq Archéologique FC team transformed into an official association. This is how “Le Poulailler” was officially “hatched” on October 7, 2024.
Beyond organizing this competition, which is dear to our hearts, the association is committed to hosting a humanistic event based on the values that define its members: diversity, sharing, mutual aid, and respect.
